Escapism is mental diversion from unpleasant or boring aspects of daily life, typically through activities involving imagination, .. to occupy one's self away from persistent feelings of depression or general sadness. The word “escapism” often carries a negative connotation, suggesting that escapists are unhappy, with an inability or unwillingness to connect meaningfully with the world. Indeed, the Oxford English Dictionary defined escapism as “The tendency to seek distraction from what normally has to be endured”. However, many challenge this.. Animism (from Latin anima, “breathspirit, life”) is the belief that objects, places and creatures all possess a distinct spiritual essence. Potentially, animism perceives all things - animals, plants, rocks, rivers, weather systems, human handiwork - as animated and alive. It is used in the anthropology of religion as a term for the belief system of many indigenous peoples..
